Nintendo’s latest earnings report is out and the Japanese company finally delivered an official number for the Switch 2 sales since release: 5.82 million consoles went over the shelves until June 30, 2025.

Switch 2 software sales reached 8.67 million with Mario Kart World contributing a substantial 5.63 million units to that total — that means a little over 96% of Switch 2 owners also bought Mario’s latest racing adventure.

The Switch 2’s veritable predecessor still managed to sell around 980.000 units in this window, with Switch software selling 24.40 million units — though the term “Switch software” is a little bit misleading now due to backward compatibility making a majority of Switch games eligible for the Switch 2 as well. Total console sales for the Switch now exceed 153 million.

“For Nintendo Switch 2, we will aim to invigorate the platform and expand the user base by conveying the unique appeal of the hardware, including its improved performance and newly added features, and by continuing to introduce new titles that can leverage that appeal to the fullest,” Nintendo told investors in the report.
