Nintendo reports 3.5 million Switch 2 sales fours days after launch

Making it the company’s fastest-selling console ever.

The Switch 2 had a successful start around the globe, according to Nintendo’s own statistics: In a short statement on social media, the manufacturer reported that it had sold 3.5 million units in just four days following the console’s release.

This not only makes it Nintendo’s fastest-selling console ever — with this number, the Switch 2 is the fastest-selling console in history, regardless of manufacturer, beating the likes of the PS4 and PS5. Those who feared a Wii U situation can breathe a sigh of relief.

Of course, the situation of the Switch 2’s release is difficult to compare with that of consoles like the PS5, which was launched at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and therefore had to fight unique supply issues that have undoubtedly slowed its rate of sales at the start.

Things are not looking like they’ll slow down any time soon for the Switch 2, at least as far as demand goes: At the moment, limited supply is more of an issue than anything else.

The Switch 2 has a long way to go before it’ll catch up to its predecessor’s total sales, of course. The Nintendo Switch is third on the list of the best-selling consoles of all time behind the DS and the PS2.
