If you know your gacha games, then you’ll be aware of Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent, which has been running in the West since 2022. While many fans of the console games haven’t been interested in this mobile entry to the series, it has a decent following, but now the players who ignored it on mobile will get to enjoy this new version of it, as it’s been reworked in Octopath Traveler 0, releasing on Nintendo Switch 2 on December 4, 2025.

While details are still a little light on the ground, this game looks to be a single-player port of the mobile game for consoles that adds some new mechanics, like the character creator and town-building minigame shown in this trailer. With cutscenes from CotC in the trailer, this looks to feature that game’s main story, with the same battle mechanics of the mobile game, which sees eight travelers take the field at once.

While it hasn’t yet been confirmed, it has also been heavily rumoured that this version of the game will not feature the paid gacha system that the mobile does, though all of the game’s many characters were featured in the trailer, so it will be interesting to see how Octopath Traveler 0 incorporates unlocking them.

Either way, it’s an exciting prospect for fans of the series who either get to have a new experience in Octopath’s world or get to re-experience the CotC in a new format with added mechanics when the game launches on December 4 later this year.
