Main Story Chapter 3 Part 1
The biggest update coming with Version 2.0 is the next chapter of the main story. This one is much bigger than the previous two chapters that the game launched with, which is why it’s being split into four parts, the first of which comes in this update. It’ll introduce us to our new Phantom Thief, new Palace Ruler, and of course, the new Palace itself that we’ll get to start to explore. This chapter also promises to reveal some of the mysteries that the first two set up, though we don’t have many details on exactly what yet.
New Phantom Thief – Riko Tanemura (Wind)
This chapter centers around Riko Tanemura, the new character who will be joining the main cast of the Phantom Thieves of Desire. She’s a Navi unit, which means she doesn’t fight on the battlefield, but offers support from the sidelines, with her skills focusing on inflicting defense drops and lowering their down points, so that the other Thieves can capitalize.
She’ll be a 4-Star Phantom Idol who will be added to the standard banner, though you will also get her A0 unit for free when you reach her Awakening during the main story.
New Phantom Idol – Ayaka Sakai (Chord)
If you’re a free-to-play player, then you’ve likely been hearing a simple piece of advice since the game’s launch – save all your currency for when Chord releases, and she’s finally here. She is easily one of the most incredible Support units in the entire game, able to give out heavy Attack and Crit Rate buffs to DPS units, but what really pushes her over the edge is her third skill, which lets you activate the powerful Highlight Attacks without needing to fill the Highlight Gauge and ignoring cooldowns.
If you’re ever going to spend everything you have on one character, Chord is that character.
Limited-Time Banner Rerun – Joker
For 30 days from the day of the 2.0 update, Joker’s limited-time banner is being re-added, meaning newer players who might’ve missed him the first time around can now use their Platinum Contracts to try and pull for him and his exclusive 5-star weapon once more.
New Mementos Area
As you might’ve expected, with a new Palace also comes a new area in Mementos with several flaws that will unlock when you first infiltrate the new Palace. Like the previous area, it’ll have multiple floors with bosses, tickets, and a whole bunch of free Meta Jewels to get your hands on, so it’s worth exploring, perhaps even before taking on the Palace.
New Area – Kichijoji
A new area of the real-world map is being added, Kichijoji, which you may remember was the new area added to the Tokyo map when Persona 5 Royal released. It has a whole host of shops, including a clothing shop where you can spend in-game Yen on new Wonder outfits, and of course, new Capsule Machines for you to pour those part-time job earnings into.
New Mechanic – Tasks
You’ll now be able to send your Phantom Idols off on Tasks, which are passive events where you set up a team of Idols to send off for a while, and they’ll come back with rewards you can pick up. This helps with various training materials, but the big prizes come with the weekly tasks, which include Gold Contracts and Thief Cognitite Shards, which can be used to craft Cognitite Shards for certain 5-star Thieves, increasing their Awareness Levels.
Check out our guide on Thief Cognitite Shards in P5X for more details on what they do and how to get them.
New Revelation Cards
While there aren’t many in-depth details on them just yet, it was announced in the 2.0 preview stream that seven new Revelation Cards are being added to the game. There will be four Heavens Cards: Virtue, Oppression, Pleasure, and Labor; as well as three Space Cards. While we don’t know the specifics of what they do just yet, we do know that some are focused on buffing Support Units, while others are focused on currently underrepresented elements like Psio and Bless.
Check out our guide on P5X Revelation Cards explained for full details on what they do.
Super Levels
For players who have reached the level cap of Level 80 with Wonder in this game, you’ll now be able to keep levelling up and getting stronger with Super Levels. Each Super Level unlocks a new tier of Schema Point, which can be used to increase Wonder’s stats. Don’t worry if you’ve been Level 80 for a while, as all the XP you’ve banked since then will be retroactively added to this system, so none of it will be wasted.
Updated Synergy Bond – Ayaka Sakai
Ayaka Sakai’s Synergy story was added in the last update, but only up to Rank 14. With this update, you’ll be able to reach Rank 20 with her, which also includes the option to start a romance with her at Rank 15.
New Side Stories – Fumi Ogata and Ena Kageyama
There are now two characters for you to meet and share a side story with. Fumi Ogata is a polite, if slightly eccentric, young girl who will show you around Kichijoji, while Ena Kageyama is a former cafe barista who has dreams of opening her own cafe. Your quests with them will let you dive deeper into their stories.
New Band Club tracks
As part of Ayaka’s Synergy Bond, she’ll be joining the Band Club with you, and with that, you’ll unlock a handful of new tracks to play, which goes hand-in-hand with Ayaka’s Synergy abilities, which help make the Band Club minigame a lot easier.
