Pokémon sponsored a Lucha Libre event and it gave us Luchadores in Pokémon cosplay
By Ryan Woodrow

Shortly after Mega Hawlucha was revealed for Pokémon Legends: Z-A, we got the announcement that CMLL, one of Mexico’s biggest Lucha Libre wrestling promotions, would host a special event sponsored by Pokémon to promote the upcoming game. It wasn’t just lip service to the sponsor either, as several of the wrestlers went all out, bringing gear inspired by various Pokémon as they came out for their matches.
The main event featured a mirror of the animated short that revealed Mega Hawlucha, as Team Hawlucha faced Team Machamp in a 3-versus-3 tag-team match. This saw Mistico come out in Hawlucha-themed gear, while Hechicero donned a Machamp mask and weight belt. As you’d expect, Team Hawlucha overcame the heels, and Mistico was even presented with a special championship belt with the game’s logo on it and Mega Evolution sideplates.
They weren’t the only ones to get in on the fun though, as during a women’s tag match earlier in the night, La Catalina came out in a Sylveon-themed bodysuit, complete with a cute little bow on the collar, while Kira wore a Togepi-themed mask and singlet, which even drew “Togepi” chants from the crowd during the match.
It was all topped off with Pikachu and Eevee jumping around on stage and watching some of the matches, making it a fun night for Pokémon and wrestling fans alike.
