Pokémon Scarlet & Violet overtakes Sword & Shield on bestseller list

Nintendo provides an update on Switch and first-party game sales.

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet has officially sold more copies than Sword & Shield, according to the latest update provided by Nintendo. Scarlet & Violet now stands at 26.79 million sold units with Sword & Shield sitting on 26.72.. They are the best-selling Pokémon games on Switch, ranking sixth and seventh on the overall list, which you can find below:

  1. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 68.2m
  2. Animal Crossing: New Horizons – 47.82m
  3. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – 36.24m
  4. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – 32.81m
  5. Super Mario Odyssey – 29.28m
  6. Pokémon Scarlet & Violet – 26.79m
  7. Pokémon Sword & Shield – 26.72m
  8. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – 21.73m
  9. Super Mario Party – 21.16m
  10. New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe – 18.25m

Switch sales numbers, meanwhile, are up to 152.12m units, a plus of 1.26m in the last quarter.

Nintendo also provided updated sales numbers for other first-party games outside of the top ten, including some of the latest releases:

  • Nintendo Switch Sports – 16.27m
  • Mario Party Superstars – 14m
  • Super Mario Party Jamboree – 7.48m
  • The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom – 4.09m
  • Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (2024) – 2.10m
  • Mario & Luigi: Brothership – 1.97m
  • Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD – 1.88m
  • Donkey Kong Country Returns HD – 1.27m

Nintendo will release the Switch 2 on June 5, 2025, which is naturally expected to become a monumental hit — the company itself has severely underestimated the demand and warned people of Switch 2 supply issues at launch. Its latest estimations predict 15m sold Switch 2s during FY2026, ending on March 31, 2026.
