Pokémon TCG Pocket is getting a mega-sized expansion next week

The Pokémon Company has announced a brand-new expansion for Pokémon TCG Pocket, and it’s likely to be the biggest new expansion to date.
It’s called Mega Rising, and as you might expect – and as was previously announced – it will focus heavily on Mega Evolution, much like the recently released Pokémon Legends: Z-A. The set will feature three booster packs, one based on Mega Gyarados, one on Mega Altaria, and another on Mega Blaziken, and it’s the first expansion since the launch set Genetic Apex to have three boosters instead of two or one.
The main draw card in this new set is Mega Evolved Pokémon, which are extremely powerful Pokémon cards that act as amped up Pokémon ex cards. These cards have higher stats and more powerful attacks, but reward three points when knocked out, which would immediately end the match. This makes them a high-risk, high-reward strategy.
Notably, these Mega Pokémon cards won’t need to be placed atop a non-Mega version of the same Pokémon. Mega Pinsir, for example, can be played directly as a Basic Pokémon card, and Mega Blaziken is evolved atop a Combusken. This should mean Stage 2 Megas like Blaziken can also be played with Rare Candy, which should make for some incredibly powerful decks that will thrash just about everything in the current meta.
Alongside the new expansion, a number of events will take place starting from next week which will give players a chance to earn Promo cards they missed throughout the game’s first year. There are also events celebrating the game’s first anniversary that offer booster packs, gifts, emblems and other rewards.
Mega Rising will launch in Pokémon TCG Pocket on October 30, 2025, with the anniversary events starting the day before on the 29th.
