Tencent Games subsidiary Grey State Studio has announced Rules of Engagement: The Grey State for PC with a planned release in 2026. The game is described as a horrorverse-themed extraction shooter and will be free-to-play with cosmetics being the only monetization.

Players will be tasked with venturing into the titular Grey State, an unstable dimension filled to the brim with terrifying monsters and valuable artifacts. Naturally, the precious baubles are the reason for braving these dangers, specifically an artifact called the Vertex.

Inside the Grey State, there is no law — both monsters and other squads are your enemies. In each match, you and your squad can decide to leave in relative safety ahead of the final clash with all of your gains, or engage in the dangerous hunt for the Vertex.

Currently, the game offers three classes: Sledge, Pyro, and Phantom. Each uses different sets of weapons in combat and has access to a unique skill tree. A fourth class is confirmed, but yet to be revealed.
