Just a few days after launch, Silent Hill f has sold over one million copies worldwide, making it the fastest selling game in Konami's horror series. This figure combines digital and physical sales across console and PC.

"This achievement reinforces the series’ status as an iconic horror franchise that continues to resonate with fans yearning for an unsettling psychological horror experience," Konami said in the announcement. "Through the lens of Silent Hill f, players dive into a haunting narrative by Ryukishi07 based on a 'beautiful yet horrifying' artistic vision."

The NeoBards Entertainment-developed game launched on September 25, though pre-orders got access two days early. The game tells the story of a schoolgirl called Hinako, who deals with identity issues and an abusive household in rural Japan during the 1960s.

"From the cast’s detached, off-kilter performances – both in Japanese and the English dub – to the art, which contrasts beauty with horror, every aspect of Silent Hill f is calculated to enrich the story it tells," our 9/10 Silent Hill f review said.

"It trusts its audience completely, never spelling everything out in bold letters, allowing you to bring your own interpretation and making you feel like an active participant in the telling without resorting to dialogue trees with arbitrary choices and consequences. This is Hinako’s story, but just like the village gossips, in one final violation of her autonomy, everyone will have their own opinion on how it ends."

The Silent Hill 2 remake launched in October last year and hit the one million milestone within four days of launch, making it the fastest selling game in the series at the time. It hit the two million mark three months later. With Silent Hill f outpacing it to the first milestone and word of mouth and strong reviews marking it out even in such a busy period, there's a good chance the new game will beat that record as well.

During Gamescom, we got the chance to interview the developers behind Silent Hill f about the game's strong themes.
