Silksong breaks Steam, eShop, and other storefronts at release
By Marco Wutz

Update (Sep. 4, 11:17am EDT): Even the Humble store seemingly got swept up in the Silksong release hype, running out of Steam keys and asking people to stop by later to purchase the game.
Other platforms appear to be on their way to recovery as more and more users are able to purchase the title and get their downloads started, easing the pressure on storefronts' servers. Steam already showed over 111,000 players on its platform alone just minutes after launch, when many users were still struggling to even get the game. Team Cherry, it looks like, will be able to celebrate a very strong launch.
Original (Sep. 4, 10:18am EDT): Hollow Knight: Silksong is released and playable — if you can get its store page to work, that is. Since Team Cherry did not put the game up for pre-orders and therefore didn’t allow downloads ahead of time, players worldwide are trying to buy and download the game at the same time.
Both Steam and the Nintendo eShop appear to struggle with the influx of orders. Valve’s store is having trouble loading the game’s page, while the eShop is giving out error messages on Switch 2. PSN appears to be down and the Xbox verification servers are so overloaded that players are unable to get into the game.
With all the hype this game built up, a scenario like this was almost predictable and should make sure that Team Cherry has all the time and money in the world to create whatever it wants next.
For the moment, a bit of patience is the best medicine, even if that’s the last thing any fan wants to hear now that the game is finally up for grabs.
We’ll keep you up to date as the situation develops.
