Mega Crit is revising the timeline.

Slay the Spire 2 will not be released in 2025: Mega Crit announced that the game’s launch will instead take place on “a secret Thursday in March 2026.”

If we’re taking the developers literally, we can limit the potential Early Access release dates of Slay the Spire 2 to March 5, 12, 19, or 26.

“We know this isn't the news anyone wanted to hear (ourselves included, we're dying to get this into your hands!) Originally, we were shooting for late 2025, but turns out we were wrong. We need some more time,” Mega Crit stated on Steam. “There's no single dramatic reason. Some personal life stuff hit the team (everyone's okay!), we kept saying ‘wouldn't it be cool if…’ one too many times, and honestly, the game just needs more polish to meet our standards.”

The indie studio denied that the delay is connected to the release of Hollow Knight: Silksong or that it got distracted by other activities — it’s simply taking a lot of time to implement all of the content that’s planned to be in Slay the Spire 2 and meet the expectations people have for Early Access releases these days.

Slay the Spire 2 will feature “new characters, more cards/potions/relics/events/etc, more visual polish, more animation and VFX, quality of life changes, entirely new mechanics, and still a whole lot more we can’t tell you about just yet.”

Among those new additions, the developers revealed, are Alternate Acts. Basically, each Act of the game comes in two radically different varieties and RNG decides which one players explore each run. Every version features different “environments, enemies, events, and bosses.” That’s double the amount of content that needs to be created compared to the original game’s Acts, so it’s easy to see why Mega Crit might want additional development time.
