Star Wars Eclipse is still alive, but Quantic Dream has started another project

A single-player studio venturing into multiplayer games, huh?

Remember the hyped announcement trailer for Star Wars Eclipse shown in… 2021?! Yes, it’s been four years since the game has been announced and in all that time we’ve heard nothing about it. However, a rare mention in the latest statement by Quantic Dream boss David Cage confirms that the project is still in development, at least.

“Of course, development of Star Wars: Eclipse continues, and we are eager to share more with you in the future,” Cage said about the title towards the end of his elaborations.

The main purpose of the statement was to announce that Quantic Dream has started work on another project — one outside the studio’s usual expertise. Instead of another single-player title, the studio has begun tinkering with a multiplayer game called Spellcasters Chronicles. It will be a free-to-play 3v3 action-strategy game that contains deck-building elements.

“After years as a single-project studio, we also decided to take a new step. Multiple teams are  fully dedicated to crafting the next generation of great games, including something very different, a competitive multiplayer experience, born from the same spirit of curiosity and creativity that has always defined us,” Cage stated.

He added: “This new title may surprise our fans as it is very different from what we have done so far. But taking risks, challenging ourselves, exploring new ways of playing and telling stories, and attempting what seems impossible, has always been part of our DNA.”

The recent industry track record for single-player studios venturing into multiplayer games isn’t exactly stellar, so fans are taking the announcement with some skepticism. At least players will not have to wait as long for Spellcasters Chronicles as for Eclipse: A closed beta is set to come to PC by the end of 2025.
