Steam now only accepts PayPal payments in six currencies

There is now a heavily limited number of currencies that can use PayPal via Steam

While Steam has a variety of options to let you pay for your games, if you prefer to use PayPal, you might now run into trouble, depending on what currency you use.

The change means that you can only use PayPal to complete your purchase if you use one of the following six currencies:

  • AUD – Australian Dollar
  • CAD – Canadian Dollar
  • EUR – Euro
  • GBP – Great British Pound
  • JPY – Japanese Yen
  • USD – United States Dollar

According to a statement released by Steam, this change occurred in early July, when “PayPal notified Valve that their acquiring bank for payment transactions in certain currencies was immediately terminating the processing of any transactions related to Steam.” This comes in the wake of Steam delisting many of its controversial NSFW games due to pressure from payment processors, though given that several of the world’s most commonly used currencies remain available, it’s unlikely this decision has anything to do with that.

Either way, if you’re a PayPal user who uses a currency other than the six listed above, you’re going to need to find a new payment method for buying your games on Steam.
