NBCUniversal was a little too eager with that one.

The sequel to the Super Mario Bros. movie will apparently be titled Super Mario World — that’s according to a press release from NBCUniversal, which mentioned the title before being edited to remove this specific item.

Super Mario World was mentioned in the context of upcoming movies that will be available on streaming service Peacock following their theatrical release.

“An exciting range of films from Universal Pictures, Focus Features, DreamWorks Animation and Illumination were presented, including Megan 2.0, Nobody 2, Bad Guys 2, How to Train Your Dragon, Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, Black Phone 2, HIM, and The Phoenician Scheme,” the edited press release stated.

Before the editing pass, the statement listed a trio of “Super Mario World, Shrek, and Minions” after The Phoenician Scheme.

Super Mario World is also the title of a classic Mario game on SNES featuring Yoshi, the cute dinosaur that was teased in the Super Mario Bros. movie’s post-credit scene — it’s all coming together, then.

Super Mario World is set to be released on April 3, 2026.
