The Expanse: Osiris Reborn won’t have you fly a ship, but CQB is on the menu nonetheless

Owlcat’s upcoming third-person RPG, The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, makes good use of the sci-fi IP’s core setting and story elements, including the protagonist having their own vessel (one of the iconic stealth ships) and crew.
However, the developers confirmed at Gamescom 2025 that players won’t be actively flying their ship around the solar system.
Owlcat co-founder and creative director Alexander Mishulin said that the setting’s sci-fi roots don't exactly make for a riveting flight experience. Fans of the source material might remember that it takes ships up to several weeks or even months to get anywhere in our home system — and that’s with able pilots calculating complicated slingshot maneuvers to exploit the gravity of moons and asteroids along the route.
At the same time, Mishulin mentioned that players will get the opportunity to take command in space battles, making crucial decisions as carnage is happening around them — it’s simply a more passive approach than getting behind the flight controls yourself, which seems to be the job of one of your companions in the game.
