Amazon’s live-action Tomb Raider series will enter production in January 2026 and has found its Lara Croft: Sophie Turner, who played Sansa Stark in HBO’s Game of Thrones, will take the role of the video game icon, according to Variety.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Chad Hodge will be co-showrunners on the project, which was first revealed to have been greenlit in 2024. Turner, too, was first linked to the series last year, but the connection remained unconfirmed at the time. Waller-Bridge is the series’ chief writer, while Jonathan van Tulleken will serve as director. Among other credits, he’s directed the first two episodes of 2024 hit series Shogun and four episodes of 2013’s second season of Top Boy.

“It’s not very often you get to make a show of this scale with a character you grew up loving. Everyone on board is wildly passionate about Lara and are all as outrageous, brave, and hilarious as she is. Get your artifacts out… Croft is coming…,” Waller-Bridge told Variety.

Turner said she was “thrilled beyond measure” to get the role. “She’s such an iconic character, who means so much to so many — and I am giving everything I’ve got.”

Lara Croft has previously been portrayed by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, making Turner the third actress to step into the rich heiress’ shoes on the TV screen.
