Assassin’s Creed Shadows has done fantastic work for Ubisoft, but according to the company’s latest earnings report it wasn’t quite enough to steer it out of its rough patch. The latest entry in Ubisoft’s flagship franchise was delayed several times to allow for more development time and this ultimately seems to have paid off, improving the title’s impact and reception — so much so that the company is attempting to repeat this formula.

CEO Yves Guillemot stated that “after a review of our pipeline, we have decided to provide additional development time to some of our biggest productions in order to create the best conditions for success.”

As a result, several Ubisoft blockbusters will have their planned release windows pushed back and “FY2026-27 and FY2027-28 will see significant content coming from our largest brands.”

This will most likely refer to upcoming games from the Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six series.

Guillemot called the release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows earlier this year “a defining moment.”

“It reaffirmed the power of the Assassin’s Creed brand, with a highly favorable community response from long-time fans and new players alike,” he added.

Guillemot emphasized that Ubisoft completed its strict cost-cutting program ahead of schedule, but will add further savings over the next two years, so the specter of potential layoffs will keep on hanging above the heads of employees going forward.

Earlier this year, Ubisoft announced the creation of a new subsidiary that will handle the creation of Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six games in the future, paying royalties to the main company, which will continue to hold all the IP rights. Chinese gaming giant Tencent will own a quarter of the new development company, making a €1.16 billion EUR investment.

Ubisoft expects to complete this split-up by the end of 2025.
