Paradox Interactive has announced National Awakening, a new Immersion Pack for Victoria 3. It will be released for PC on September 23, 2025

National Awakening will focus on the internal politics of Austria-Hungary and the struggles of the minority populations inside the empire, which are looking to take control of their own fate and get their own nation states — especially as the neighboring Ottoman Empire’s grasp on the Balkans continues to weaken.

Culminating in the liberal revolutions of 1848, these developments kept Austrian politics in their grasp for decades and weakened the empire that was at the height of its power following the fall of Napoleon. Using the strong position Metternich put Austria in, players need to decide whether to transform the empire into a cosmopolitan state held under tight, bureaucratic reins, or harness their various nationalistic movements to reform it into something entirely different.

Naturally, all of the Balkan nations have major decisions ahead of them as well: Hungary needs to decide what to do with independence, Serbia is frozen by a clash between two royal houses, Bulgaria struggles for freedom from the Ottoman yoke, and Montenegro needs to embrace a secular system of government in order to expand.

Will each nation look to its own salvation or is their appetite for a union under the banners of Yugoslavia or Illyria? How will the Ottomans deal with these developments?

National Awakening will provide tons of events, historical characters, and new art assets to bring the player’s version of these events to life in the grand strategy game.
