Relic Entertainment is bringing one of the best real-time strategy games into the modern age of PC gaming with the Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War Definitive Edition, scheduled to arrive in 2025.
Optimized for today’s hardware, the Definitive Edition will contain the base game as well as all expansion content, totalling four campaigns, nine playable factions, and over 200 maps.
It will support 4K resolutions, feature upscaled textures, and image-based lighting to increase visual fidelity. Aspects like world lighting, shadows, and unit reflections have been improved, while brand-new features like unit gloss and emissive lighting have been added to enhance the experience.
Relic also improved the gameplay camera and optimized HUD and screen layout for widescreen displays. Naturally, the game has been upgraded to a 64-bit platform. Crucially for the ever flourishing community around the game, Relic has taken care to make the Definitive Edition compatible with mods for the original.
“The Definitive Edition celebrates the original Dawn of War and preserves the legacy of this landmark Warhammer 40,000 title for years to come,” commented Justin Dowdeswell, CEO at Relic Entertainment, in a press release. “Warhammer 40,000 is more popular than ever, and we want new players to experience where the classic Dawn of War franchise began, while providing a platform for our long-time fans to relive it in its entirety.”
Representing an era in which Relic was pumping out hit after hit, Dawn of War features classic base-building and army management, making both macro and micro important.
