Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freeks to get full PC release in May 2025

Caged Element’s vehicle combat game Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freeks is graduating from Early Access on May 22, 2025, which will see the release of version 1.0 on PC. The launch will go hand in hand with a publisher change: Plaion makes way for Wired Productions.

Speed Freeks was available for free during Early Access and the around 250,000 players who helped test the game ahead of the full release will get to keep the game without any cost. The full release will also remove all microtransactions from the game, as the title moves to a regular buy-to-play business model with DLC packs. 

The in-game store will continue to be visible to players with leftover Teef – the game’s premium currency that could be earned and bought during Early Access – so that they may use it all up. This has to be done within a year after release, as the shop will then be removed for everyone.

“We set out to make the Orkiest of Warhammer 40,000 games, and through our early access period we've had thousands of people help us achieve that goal — along with our previous publisher Plaion,” commented game director Chris Mallinson. “Now with Wired Productions picking up the torch, we're launching out of early access and into version 1.0 with a different approach that we think players will really appreciate and enjoy. We thank both partners for their dedication to the game, along with Games Workshop. We’re of course very happy to be back with our pals at Wired Productions, since we worked with them before on GRIP. Now enuff o’ dat, on to da WAAAGH!!!”

Plaion’s Paul Jeal wished Caged Element and Wired Productions “nothing but success” and Wired Productions’ Leo Zullo thanked Plaion for the “smooth, respectful handover.”

“The work that’s gone into Early Access, shaped by player feedback, has been huge. Everyone at Wired is buzzing to be back alongside our friends at Caged Element. Launch is just the beginning, we’ve got big plans and plenty of surprises coming your way,” he added.

Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freeks is a multiplayer title combining the speed and handling of racing games with the action of vehicular combat. But since we’re talking about Orks here, all the vehicles are haphazard constructions with very particular characteristics.

Speed Freeks will be released during the upcoming Warhammer Skulls showcase, which will have announcements and updates from many other Warhammer games. Speed Freeks itself was initially revealed during the 2023 edition of the show.
