With the recent wave of consumer backlash over Nintendo announcing that their first-party games will cost $80 on the Nintendo Switch 2, Microsoft have snuck in and hiked the prices of their consoles and controllers, with games planned to follow suit later this year.

In an update from Microsoft, as of today, the Xbox Series X costs $599.99, an increase of $100, while the Xbox Series S has been bumped to $379.99, and increase of $80 on the previous price. This comes in the wake of Sony also bumping the prices of the PS5 in certain regions due to the recent tariffs placed on certain regions by the US government.

Other Microsoft hardware is going up too, with an Xbox base controller now costing $64.99 and the wireless headset costing a whopping $119.99. The capper to this is that first-party Xbox titles will be getting an increase in price later this year, likely in time for the holiday season, matching the Nintendo Switch 2’s prices at $79.99. We don’t know exactly what games this will apply to just yet though.

While none of these are yet to reach the wild price of $700 for the PS5 Pro, things are unfortunately likely to start going further in that direction, especially as both Microsoft and Sony are likely already planning for the next generation of consoles at some point in the next few years.
