Choosing the best support in League of Legends Patch 11.5 is all about crowd control.

Because of how diverse the support class is, it's tricky to pin down which one is better than the other one. For this patch, the list will consist of champions that consistently help during team fights while providing utility (be it in the form of shields or heals) to their allies.

1. Leona

Known for her crowd control, Leona's passive allows allies to deal even more damage to enemy champions. This skill, coupled with her stuns and tankiness, make her a force to be reckoned with during team fights.

2. Seraphine

Yes, she was nerfed (again) but even with the changes that were made, Seraphine remains a viable pick as a support character. Being both an offensive spellcaster and a great healer, Seraphine provides relief in the backline of her team and grants movement speed to allies in case a disengagement is needed.

3. Thresh

A support list would not be complete without this king of hooks. Thresh's kit is about either singling out one enemy champion or getting into the fray and casting his ultimate ability in order to slow down enemies that are entrapped. His shields (and the lantern mechanic) provide a lot of utility to ally champions, as well as methods of disengagement for squishy champions that tried to bite more than what they could chew.

4. Alistar

A great initiator with a passive that heals, Alistar is a high-tier support in the right hands.

Knock-ups, stuns, and heals make for a deadly combination. Alistar synergizes so well with champions that can take advantage of his kit (such as Yasuo) and damage dealers that allow him to go all-in when engaging in a team-fight. However, his low-mobility and high-risk playstyle make him a choice for experienced players.

5. Rell

Rell is the newest champion on this list, but ever since her release her kit has been praised for its versatility.

One of the newest champions, Rell offers healing through her Q ability while also being an interesting vanguard. Unlike champions like Alistar and Leona, she doesn't exactly barge right into the enemy, but rather pokes at them with her passive that triggers a debuff that ally champions can take advantage of. Rell is all about positioning, but her movement speed, healing tankiness and versatility through her two forms has her as one of our top five picks for support champions.

The "support meta" consists of either healers who synergize well with Moonstone Renewer or tanks with a lot of crowd control, and we included more of their latter because more often than not they do survive more than a champion such as Lulu or Nami. This does not mean they are unplayable, and at the end of the day, players should be able to use champions they are the most comfortable with. Whether that means being a yordle with a fancy hat, or a spooky green skeleton man with a lantern, is totally up to you.
