The Dota 2 team took to Twitter and announced that they have new plans for the next competitive season of Valve's hit MOBA.
Where in the past there has been Majors, now, Valve is putting their support into third party tournaments. Sponsored tournaments can be either Major or Minor but have to follow a set of rules. At these tournaments, teams can be awarded Qualifying Points, which will be the new and only way to be invited to The International 2018.
There will also be the creation of a leaderboard that will help fans keep track of Qualifying Points and standings throughout the year.
HELL YEAH! Transparency, representation from all regions, and a system that encourages 3rd party tournaments that MATTER.— Nahaz (@NahazDota) July 3, 2017

So far, there has been a positive response to the changes for the next competitive season. Although these changes might need some time to get used to, they seem like they will balance the ecosystem of the competitive scene.
