Esports continues to grow with each coming day and its influence extends as well. Back when League of Legends was first erupting we saw some colleges adopt competitive gaming through offering scholarships or even making teams. It seems that the second coming of just that is now upon us.

The University of California Irvine has recently announced that they will be offering scholarships to students that play excel at Overwatch, while also maintaining strong performances in academics.

The University has already proven that their Overwatch team is not to be slept on, having won the Tespa Summer Series in the past.

The scholarship is said to help pay a good chunk of tuition and will be up for grabs starting this coming fall. The school will also be hiring it's own coach to help nourish and grow the players to become threats outside of the college scene.

Hopefully other schools follow UCI's example to help grow the collegiate esports scene and reach of esports altogether.
