Esports, despite its slow start, is rising quickly within the recent years. Overwatch has earned major popularity despite being new compared to other esports, such as League of Legends, and Blizzard Entertainment has scored a deal that will only increase the fanbase of esports.
ESPN released an article that released all the juicy details.
With the upcoming Overwatch League, Blizzard was able to secure six agreements that included the New England Patriots and New York Mets. The buy-in price for the Los Angeles and San Francisco teams is $20 million per spot.
For the four American cities: Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, and Boston will be occupied by groups non-endemic to esports ownership. New York will be owned and operated by the Mets, Patriots will own the Boston spot, Immortals will control Los Angeles, and NRG Esports will have the San Francisco spot.
