If any doubt remained about Justin "Plup" McGrath, it has been vanquished now.
Plup claimed first place at GENESIS 5, the first major of the year, in dominant fashion. Along the way, he dethroned three of the five "gods" of Super Smash Bros Melee to take an upset championship.
I WON GENESIS— Justin McGrath (@PG_Plup) January 22, 2018
Plup's run began with a win over Avery "Ginger" Wilson, then saw him tear through Hugo "HugS" Gonzalez and Joseph "Mang0" Marquez all before top 8. On Sunday, Plup cut down Adam "Armada" Lindgren and Juan "Hungrybox" DeBiedma to claim the trophy for himself.
It's hard to say which of Plup's bracket achievements was most impressive — between shutting out Armada and coming out on top after three sets with Hungrybox, Plup made just about every statement a player can make.
Kinda getting vibes of revival of Melee. We had the old legacy of the 5 gods and now the new changing of the guard slowly taking over.— Cloud9 Tafo (@tafokints) January 22, 2018
We called it an upset then, but after his performance at GENESIS 5, a Plup win might simply become par for the course.
