Tespa has announced the dates for the Overwatch Fiesta Bowl, the last tournament for the Overwatch Collegiate National Championship season. Three hundred teams were narrowed down to the four that will be competing for the title on Feb. 17 in Tempe, Arizona.
Overwatch has grown since it was first added to the Tespa lineup in 2016, in large part due to how much support the game has received right out of the gate. The first Tespa tournament sported a $100,000 prize pool, all of that money structured into scholarships for their college athletes. Now, they've partnered with the Fiesta Bowl, one of the many college football bowl organizations.
Following in the footsteps of the many sports team's recent investments in esports in games like League of Legends and the Overwatch League, their partnership is another big step towards making esports mainstream.
The Arizona State University Campus will host not only the tournament, but also a collection of other events. There will be an exhibition match between Arizona State University and the University of Arizona, as well as a number of giveaways and Blizzard sponsored swag. To reserve seating tickets, along with a T-shirt and other loot, head over to the store.
If you can't make it in person, there will be streams on Twitch and MLG.com for the whole day's events. From the rematch of the past champions, University of Toronto and USC Berkley, to the crowning of the next ones, there's plenty of awesome matches to look forward to and enjoy.
