Following the announcement of Brigitte's arrival on live servers, Brigitte will be available in Competitive play starting with Season 10, according to Overwatch developer Scott Mercer.

His post on the Overwatch forums detailed a new rule that Blizzard has put in place regarding new heroes or maps and their addition to Competitive play.

"Starting with the releases of Blizzard World and Brigitte, we made the decision to debut new maps and heroes in Competitive Play at the beginning of the season that follows their release," he said. "This will help give each competitive season a stronger identity, as well as provide the community with plenty of time to learn how to play with new maps or heroes."

Mercer mentioned that Brigitte will be a part of Competitive play starting with Season 10, just as Blizzard World, the game's newest map, didn't go live in competitive play until the start of Season 9.

Brigitte is a support hero who has abilities similar to that of a tank. She was launched in the Overwatch Public Test Region in February, but will make her way to live servers Tuesday.
