NRG Esports has qualified for IEM Sydney after defeating compLexity in the finals of the closed qualifier.
This is a huge victory for the team who has been on an upward trajectory this post-Major season. Damian "Daps" Steele's men currently hold an undefeated 10-0 record in ECS Season 5 as well as a record of 10-1 with one overtime victory in ESL Pro League Season 7.
The first map was Cache which was compLexity's map pick. Ethan "nahtE" Arnold had an incredible double kill with the Desert Eagle on the 20th round to convert what was pretty much a full eco round for NRG into a win. But compLexity responded in the 24th round with an eco round victory of their own with Jaccob "yay" Whiteaker picking up an incredible 1v4 clutch. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to stop the plow of NRG as the team claimed victory on Cache.
Pujan "FNS" Mehta's men were looking to come back on Nuke and reclaim their opportunity to travel to the land down under. The first half of map two was incredibly close as the teams were trading rounds back and forth with compLexity taking the lead into the half 8-7.
The second half was all NRG as they cruised their way past compLexity's T-side to a comfortable 16-9 to win.
NRG have been the kings of online CS for the past few weeks and it's nice to see their hard work paying off. Let's hope they can continue this run of form on LAN in Sydney.
