OG player Tal "Fly" Aizik criticized Dota 2 tournaments for continuing to have best-of-one formats. The criticism comes after the Dota 2 Asia Championships featured best-of-ones in the lower bracket for teams in the playoff portion of the event. His team, OG, was knocked out in the group stage portion of the tournament.
Fly stated in a Twitter post on Wednesday that, "Having a chance to adapt and improve during a series is what helps evolve Dota and the tournaments meta game." The criticism was similar to comments from Phillip Aram, the COO and manager of Evil Geniuses, where he went into detail about the lack of consistency in the tournament formats for the Dota 2 majors this season. He also called for more double elimination best-of-three formats.
The Dota 2 Asia Championships still have two best-of-one competitions scheduled in the lower bracket of the playoff stage. Team Liquid will face off against TNC Pro Team, and Virtus.pro will play against ViCi Gaming. Both matches take place Friday.
Virtus.pro has the least to lose of the four teams in the lower bracket currently as the team has already qualified for the International 8.
