The Overwatch patch updated that included the Overwatch Anniversary event brought multiple new hero interactions. A new interaction between Mercy and Lúcio offers more information on Lúcio -- a hero who is in dire need of more lore.

When an ally Mercy and Lúcio are together, she says she is surprised to learn Lúcio's father is the creator of the technology used at Vishkar Corporation, a multinational corporation based in India. Lúcio then said it was his father's life's work, owned and patented by Vishkar. "But it's mine now," he said.

Lúcio is not only famous for being a DJ, but for leading the revolts in Rio de Janeiro, in his home country of Brazil, to drive out Vishkar from neighborhoods. Vishkar was set to redevelop large parts of the city, but promises of a better life were not delivered.

The company "imposed controls on the residents in the name of building a more orderly society: enforcing curfews, cracking down on what the company perceived as lawless behavior, and exploiting the populace as a cheap labor force," his biography read. Lúcio stole technology from Vishkar and created the weapons he is seen using in the game.

Already existing voice lines between Vishkar employee Symmetra, whose rework will hit Overwatch's Public Test Region "soon," and Lúcio show Symmetra telling Lúcio to return the technology he stole. "Stole? Psh. You need to go ask your bosses where it all came from; then we can talk," Lúcio said in response.

With this new update, the mystery of who developed Vishkar's technology is solved. This leads fans to question whether he was employed by Vishkar to develop the technology, or whether the company got a hold of it through other ways.
