The launch of Fortnitemares, the Halloween-themed Limited Time Mode for Fortnite, included cube fragments known as "Cube Monsters," and apparently developer Epic Games does not want fans to take any creative liberties with that name.
Upon the release of the LTM on Wednesday in Fortnite Patch 6.20, some players started referring to the Fortnitemares characters as zombies, which is apparently a no-no for Epic Games.
“They’re officially ‘Cube Monsters,’” an Epic Games representative told The Verge. “Across Fortnite, we don’t refer to any enemies as ‘zombies.’ In Save the World, you have ‘Husks’ and ‘monsters’ of various names and types.”
It's unclear why the developers have such strong feelings about the name of the cube monsters.
The larger problem with the Cube Monsters is the community reaction to them. Many people are outraged at the introduction of enemies into the PvP mode and are calling for them to be removed. The patch that introduced Cube Monsters also introduced some new weapons including the Six Shooter and Fiend Hunter Crossbow which make taking down these enemies in Fortnite a joy.
