No Pangolier and Virtus.pro qualified for the Dota 2 Major by taking first and second place at the CIS closed qualifiers. 

​​The first ​Dota 2 team from the CIS region to qualify for the Chongqing Major was No Pangolier, a Russian team formed in October. It bested established Dota 2 teams like Gambit Esports and Virtus.pro to earn first qualifying spot. No Pangolier beat Virtus.pro 2-1 in the finals of the qualifiers, and Virtus.pro defeat Gambit Esports 2-0 to secure second place.


From the Southeast Asia region two more teams qualified for the Major. Fnatic and TNC Predator qualified through the ​SEA closed qualifiers.


The Chongqing Major, which StarLadder revealed would be the second Major in the 2018-2019 Dota Pro Circuit season, will start Jan. 19 and end Jan. 27.
