The ESL Pro League is looking to expand the number of European teams in the league to 16.

The ESL Pro League announced Saturday that they will be upgrading their format for 2019 going forward. In the new format, the European region will be featuring 16 total teams from the EU region. This will only begin with Season 9, as the Season 8 finals begin in less than a week. This will have several effects on the old system.

In the Pro League, the Odense Season 8 finals groups have just been announced. The groups feature eight teams each, and six of those will move on to the playoffs to have a shot at the grand prize.

The group stage will begin Dec. 4-6 and will be played in front of a live audience for the first time. The playoffs will run Dec. 7-9.
