5 Best Top Laners in League of Legends Patch 8.24

League of Legends Patch 8.24 introduced a number of changes to top lane champions, including Irelia, Heimerdinger, and Illaoi.

Given these changes, here are the five best top laners in League of Legends Patch 8.24.

5. Viktor

In the most recent patch, Viktor received an increase of one second onto his Q's cooldowns at each rank, as well as a slight decrease to the ability's damage. However, the champion saw a cooldown decrease on his E as well as an increase to the its ability power ratio. While this change will likely decrease his overall trading potential, Viktor still remains an incredibly strong pick against the current dominant picks in the top lane.

4. Aatrox

Aatrox saw a slight change in the most recent League of Legends patch, which removed the 0.1 attack damage against jungle monsters effect on his Q, to target his jungling abilities. These changes did not affect his strength in the top lane, where the Darkin Blade remains an incredibly strong pick due to his Q chains, damage output, and mobility.

3. Heimerdinger

Heimerdinger received a number of changes with Patch 8.24, including increased damage on each rocket within his upgraded W, as well as a few smaller changes with damage transparency within the extended tooltip. The Yordle stood as a strong pick prior to the buffs, and is now an even stronger pick to take in the top lane with these buffs to his upgraded W.

2. Sion

Sion still remains the best tank in the top lane, even in a meta where tanks are generally pushed out of lane in favor of damage-heavy bruisers and assassins. This is due, in part, to his large amount of scaling health on his W ability as well as his base resistances. With his knockup and slow, he provides crowd control options for his teammates during 5v5s, allowing his allies to quickly dash in and kill single targets.

1. Urgot

Urgot remains towards the top of the list of best top laners after making it through the most recent patches unscathed. His ranged attacks benefit him in lane when trading with melee champions. Urgot can pack on defensive items while still being able to dish out a surprising amount of damage. After depleting his enemy's health bar and upon successfully landing his ultimate ability, Urgot can quickly execute enemies who fall below the 25 percent health range.
