BIG will replace Owen "smooya" Butterfield in its active Counter-Strike: Global Offensive with Johannes "nex" Maget, according to a report published Thursday by VPEsports.

Per one source in the report, smooya benched himself earlier in January. He had spent around eight months on the team's active roster, signing in April. BIG has yet to confirm the self-benching, but has confirmed smooya has reached out to several unnamed North American and European CS:GO teams about his upcoming availability.

Nex is expected to fill in for smooya at the IEM Katowice Major, where he's currently listed as the team's coach.

When BIG acquired İsmailcan "XANTARES" Dörtkarde in December, the team stated its intent for him to fill in for nex while that player underwent surgery for wrist pain. When nex returned, the six players would swap in and out of the roster dynamically, according to the situation at hand. Smooya's imminent departure appears to throw a wrench in that plan.

BIG has yet to comment on the situation.
