In a touching tribute, deceased Xbox game developer Mike Forgey appears in Crackdown 3 as a playable agent.
Head of Xbox Phil Spencer wrote about the moment he had playing Crackdown 3, when he discovered his coworker and friend, Forgey, memorialized in the game.
Playing a lot of Crackdown 3 and having a lot of fun. An emotional moment for me was when I got to pick my agent and saw our passed teammate Mike Forgey memorialized in the game, such a touching moment that he wanted to see happen. Needless to say Mike is my agent of choice— Phil Spencer (@XboxP3) February 17, 2019
Mike Forgey Crackdown 3: Touching Tribute in Game
"An emotional moment for me," Spencer wrote, "was when I got to pick my agent and saw our passed teammate Mike Forgey memorialized in the game, such a touching moment that he wanted to see happen."
"Needless to say, Mike is my agent of choice."
Forgey had previously worked at Microsoft, where he went from testing titles such as Fable and Perfect Dark Zero to producing Gears of War 2 and Kinect Adventures. He went on to produce at Monolith Productions, where he worked on that Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor.
Forgey died in 2016 after a 10-month battle with brain cancer. Monolith Productions, Bungie and Sumo Digital, the developers of Crackdown 3, participated in auctions raising money to support Forgey's living family. Sumo Digital offered players a chance to appear in-game, ultimately raising around $1,200 to support the Forgey family.
