Devil May Cry 5: How to Unlock Vergil
Devil May Cry 5 how to unlock Vergil as a playable character has been a hot topic for fans of the long-running hack-and-slash series.
Originally an antagonist in the first Devil May Cry game in 2001, Vergil is a mainstay of the Devil May Cry series, appearing in every game in the main series sans Devil May Cry 2. Twin brother to series protagonist Dante, Vergil is much more of a stoic antihero and occasional villain whose fraternal and often bloody rivalry with Dante is a key part of the series.
Vergil has been playable in Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition and Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition, updated versions of the base games. He was also the star of the downloadable Vergil's Downfall missions in DmC: Devil May Cry, 2014 standalone reboot of the series.
Devil May Cry 5 How to Unlock Vergil
Vergil is a key character in Devil May Cry 5, being the primary instigator of the plot. Like his brother, Vergil is a half-human half-demon hybrid. In Devil May Cry 5, he split his demon side from him, which became the primary antagonist of the game, the demon Urizen. His human side became the new character V, one of the playable characters alongside Dante and Nero.
While technically playable in the lore, Vergil himself in his recognizable state is not officially playable. That being said, modder Nekorun of YouTube channel Deep Game Research discovered that it was possible by hacking into the game files in the PC version that it was possible to play as Vergil, who was functional although incomplete compared to the recognized playable characters.
This is thought to indicate that Vergil may later become playable through downloadable content, potentially in the Bloody Palace update. Further data mining has revealed possible information hinting at the addition of Lady and Trish as playable characters further down the line.
