Animal Crossing: New Horizons K.K. Slider: How to Earn the Glorious Tracks
By Jack O'Dwyer
K.K. Slider is one of the most popular special villagers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons to both players and other villagers alike.
Players will remember this groovy dog from the very first iteration of Animal Crossing. He is a pure white Jack Russell terrier who lives his life as a travelling musician playing his guitar. This appears to have worked out rather well for him as he holds several recording albums and hit singles. He has just over 90 songs available to the player over the series.
Slider has a prominent distaste for selling his songs. Instead, if the player comes to see him perform live, he gladly hands over a copy of whatever track you request from him. In the original Animal Crossing, he would perform at the train station. In recent titles, however, he has since moved on to play Brewster's cafe and other venues. He took on a new look in New Leaf as DJ K.K., but this appears to be short-lived with the release of New Horizons. Players can always expect him on Saturdays.
His birthday is Aug. 23, making him a Virgo, and he likes his coffee black. It's noted that Isabelle has a crush on him on his amiibo page—"Nobody could blame her, right?"
Slider's first name is canonically "Totakeke." This comes from Animal Crossing sound designer, Kazumi Totaka, often expressed as Totaka K., which sounds similar.
K.K. Slider in New Horizons
In New Horizons, players can only look into attracting Slider to their island after the completion of the new Resident Services building.
Find Tom Nook inside and let him give you a rundown of the new building and all its functions. Eventually, he'll explain that his number one goal at the moment is to get K.K. Slider to perform a concert right here on your island. Nook calls this plan "Project K."
Completing project K involves placing a campsite to attract more villagers and eventually ending up with more residents on your island. Remember that you can only have a total of 10 villagers living on your island so choose wisely if you're picky.
The final step of Project K is to improve the general aesthetic of your island with flowers, furniture, fences, and pulling up all the weeds. Now, all you need to do is wait for the dog, himself, to take notice of your island.
Nook and Isabelle will eventually get a note from Slider, which evolves into a phone call stating he can show up on your island as soon as the very next day—which he does. From that point onward you can expect to see Slider every Saturday performing live for you and your residents. You can make requests, as always, and he'll be happy to gift you the track afterward.
