Respawn have banned the accounts of cheaters who took the top spots on an Apex Legends ranked leaderboard.
Apex Legends continues to struggle in their battle against cheaters, particularly in the game's competitive mode. Recently, cheaters were unsurprisingly able to take the top spots of the ranked leaderboard.
With the consistent presence of cheaters, games have become almost impossible for normal players to win. Most players now have to contend with aimbots, wallhacks, and even server attacks. To combat this, Respawn have been increasing their attempts to thwart cheaters and hackers. On Sept. 30, Respawn removed two cheaters from the top of the Predator leaderboard, and wiped a number of of other cheaters from the board too.
The goal here is to clear the space so that it can be used for its intended purpose, allowing high-skilled players to reach the top spots and show off their rank. Many in the Apex community strive to make it onto the leaderboard, but when cheaters are involved the entire premise is devalued.
Apex Legends Cheaters Removed From Top of Ranked Leaderboard
Respawn Security Analyst Connor "Hideouts" Ford seem to lead the charge in what he described as a "purge".
Ford's post went on to say, "purge completed. New rankings are accurate and cheater free."
While it may only be a handful of cheaters that have been wiped off so far, it's great to see Respawn taking the actions needed to counter cheaters. It's clear that Apex Legends still has a long way to go before significant improvements can be seen in the majority of matches, but it seems that Respawn is committed in their war on cheaters.
