One Apex Legends player has discovered ex-developer Daniel Z Klein's death box near a den of Prowlers in the new Storm Point map.
It's uncommon for developers to leave a brand or reference to themselves, their teams, or other notable community members in their games. Blizzard Entertainment did this to a fault—still embroiled in a scandal that had them remove such mentions entirely. Apex Legends employs the same principle with its development team, which has led one player to discover a specific former staffer's death box inside the newest map.
Player Discovers ex-Dev Daniel Klein's Death Box
Reddit user ssamify posted their discovery of the death box on the Apex Legends subreddit on Tuesday, Nov. 2. In the title, they explained that others could potentially find the death box of ex-staff member Daniel Z Klein, marked with his gamertag: DanielZKlein.
Death boxes are a common occurrence in Apex Legends. They are what their name describes: a box dropped upon the death of another player. It marks the specific location a player has died and contains everything they had at the moment of their death, including a card that allies can use to revive them.
Klein's box was found near a den of Prowlers—quadrupedal predators that populate the wilderness of Apex. It's currently unclear whether the box was placed there purposefully or if it was potentially picked up and dropped similar to flyers in Kings Canyon.
In the last days of his career at Respawn, Klein was involved in a controversy concerning previous inflammatory tweets he made a number of years ago. The comments section of this post reflects that sentiment with fans posting on both sides of the aisle.
Apex Legends' newest season, Season 11: Escape, is currently up and running.
