Apex Legends SBMM: Will it Ever be Removed?
By Nathan Fusco

Apex Legends SBMM has been a controversy ever since Respawn Entertainment confirmed its existence in the basic game mode of Apex Legends. Its removal was teased by a Respawn Dev at the end of 2019, before it was later denied by a different Respawn Dev.
Most games have some type of algorithm to figure how many points players earn or lose when they play a competitive match. It calculates the skill in the match and who the players faced. It can be bothersome as the matchmaking system will place you in a much more difficult tier compared to your actual ranking causing you to face high-level players.
But what's worse is a system that places a hidden ranking on casual matches. Players use those matches to play a more casual game or warm up before ranked matches.

Apex Legends SBMM: Will It Ever Be Removed?
Apex Legends SBMM will always have players split on its existence. When you play duos or trios, players either want a relaxed game, playing against either bad players or good ones, or a game against similar opponents. Content creators love the absence of a SBMM, as it allows them to have low-key games and the ability to have fun. When you have a SBMM in place, you'll always play against players that should be around your level.
It's really up to the developers on what type of matchmaking they want, so Apex Legends players best get used to SBMM since it's not going anywhere anytime soon.
