With Madden NFL 23 finally set to release in just a couple of weeks' time, now is perhaps as good of a time as ever to go over what the best playbooks likely will be in the new game.
As has long been the case within the Madden series, only a handful of the game's slate of playbooks end up being utilized and mastered by the community as players discovered and develop the meta. For those looking to stay ahead of the pack from day one, here are our top three projected defensive playbooks to use in Madden NFL 23.
Best Defensive Playbook Madden 23: 3 Projected Choices
3. Pittsburgh Steelers
Kicking things off is one of the highest risers from last year's game, the Pittsburgh Steelers defensive playbook. In addition to the usual solid defensive formations that most find effective, this one includes the rare Nickel 1-5-5 DBL A-Gap formation.
2. New England Patriots
A proven, versatile option year-after-year, the Patriots defensive playbook almost assuredly will once again feature a good mix of both 3-4 and 4-3 formations, as well as useful Nickel and Dime formations.
1. Alternate 46
The 46 Alternative playbook has been one of the best defensive playbooks in recent years, and it appears to continue that tradition in Madden 23. This one still features Big Nickel and 3-3-5 Cub options, the latter of which is the new name for 3-3-5 Wide from Madden 22 (H/T RealSport101).
Madden NFL 23 is set to release worldwide for PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC (via EA app, Origin, Steam and Epic Games Store) on Aug. 19, 2022. EA Play (via Early Access Trial) and EA Play Pro subscribers, as well as those who pre-order the All Madden Edition, will have early access to the game starting on Aug. 16.
