The Call of Duty: Vanguard alpha's download size isn't nearly as intimidating as a full Call of Duty game's would be thanks to its limited scope, but that by no means makes it small. We're still talking about a AAA game, with all the bloat that scale of the project implies. Here's what you need to know about the Call of Duty: Vanguard Alpha's download.

Call of Duty: Vanguard's Champion Hill alpha is only open to PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 players, so only those lucky few will have to deal with the game's 20GB download size. Players could pre-load the game before the alpha launched, but now that it's live anyone who hasn't installed will need to do so before they can get into the game.

Champion Hill refers not just to the alpha itself, but also to the game mode players will be experiencing in the alpha. In the alpha version of Champion Hill, teams of two or three compete in a round-robin, limited-life deathmatch tournament.

Players start with a primary weapon, secondary weapon, lethal equipment and tactical equipment. They earn money by picking it up in-game or by killing other players, which they can then use to upgrade their loadout. The last squad with remaining lives wins.

Players have until 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, Aug. 29, to play. Vanguard itself is scheduled to arrive Nov. 5.
