Call of Duty: Warzone Zombie Royale is a new limited-time squad mode that drops with the launch of the Haunting of Verdansk event tomorrow.
For the first time, zombies will be unleashed in Call of Duty's latest battle royale map.
Call of Duty: Warzone Zombie Royale: How to Play
The first point to note is that the zombies aren't simply controlled by AI.
Instead of being sent to the Gulag, dead operators in Zombie Royale spawn back in as a zombie. Zombies aren't able to use weapons, but have supernatural abilities such as increased speed, improved jumps, stronger melee attacks and thermal vision.
Zombie players also still have a way to return to their former selves.
When an operator is killed, they drop a syringe that shows up on the map. Collecting two of these as a zombie will grant them the opportunity to parachute back in for a second chance with their original loadout.
The Warzone victory is rewarded to the last remaining squad with a surviving operator, even if the rest of their teammates has turned into zombies.
Zombie Royale takes place on the new night variant of Verdansk, which is littered with scary additions across the map. The specially marked "Trick or Treat" supply boxes, which may contain either exclusive rewards or a brief scare, can also be earned in this mode.
