Gastly is this week’s featured Spotlight Hour Pokemon in Pokemon GO, meaning shiny hunters have a shot at their perfect IV shiny Gastly.

This Pokemon has been a fan favorite since its introduction during the Indigo League television series. It is best known for its mischievous nature, living in a tower with its two evolved forms, Haunter and Gengar, prior to being found by the series protagonist. In Pokemon GO, Gastly’s final form, Gengar, is among the most—if not the pinnacle of—powerful ghost-types.

Shiny Gastly in Pokemon GO

Yes, Gastly can be shiny in Pokemon GO.

Gastly was originally released in Pokemon GO at launch in July 2016. However, its shiny form did not debut until November 2018—nearly two years later.

Like its evolved forms, shiny Gastly can be difficult to tell apart from its typically-colored counterpart. Its most notable change is the hue of the mist around its body. It will be tinted blue, while Gastly’s orb body will be a brighter, more saturated shade of its typical purple.

Gastly is also known as the “Gas” Pokemon, which shouldn’t come as a shock according to its Pokedex description. Its body is comprised of “gaseous matter” that can easily be blown away by a strong wind. Groups of this Pokemon will huddle together under trees to stay safe from windy weather. Its Pokedex number is #092.

Trainers can evolve their Gastly into a Haunter and then into Gengar with 25 and 100 candies, respectively. Haunter can also be evolved via trading. Gengar’s mega-evolution is currently available and can be prompted using 200 mega energy.
