It’s always a treat to discover the addition of a new shiny in Pokemon GO, as the addition of these rare, alternate-colored forms of Pokemon always causes a frenzy amongst players. A considerable amount of shiny variants currently exist in the game, but out of the existing roster of monsters, can Grumpig be shiny in Pokemon GO?
Grumpig is a Psychic-type that was first introduced in Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire alongside its pre-evolution form, Spoink. In the mainline series, Grumpig could only be obtainable from evolving Spoink, though GO has allowed players to capture it in the wild. It first debuted in Pokemon GO as part of the Hoenn update back in Dec. 17, and is still available to capture in the wild.
Can Grumpig be Shiny in Pokemon GO?
Shiny Grumpig has been in the game since 2019’s Lunar New Year update, so players are able to acquire this rare variant. However, like all shiny Pokemon, the chances of encountering it are extremely rare. Fortunately for those wanting to acquire a shiny Grumpig, there is an upcoming Spotlight Hour in that will feature Spoink, set to occur on Sept. 7 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., according to the player’s local time zone.
Like Spoink, Grumpig gained a shiny variant in the same update, so it’s possible to obtain a shiny Grumpig via evolution, as well as obtaining one through normal capture methods. To evolve a Spoink into Gumpig, it will require 50 candies, which will be very easy to obtain with the amount of Spoink players can encounter during the hour.
The Spotlight Hour featuring Spoink will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 7 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., times in accordance with the player’s local time zone.
