Can Spoink be shiny in Pokemon GO? Shinies have always been considered the hallmark of rare Pokemon since their introduction in Generation 2, as the chances of finding these alternate-colored Pokemon are extremely slim. Pokemon GO is no exception, though the additions of shinies are gradual, so not all Pokemon can appear in their rare forms.
Spoink is a Psychic-type that was introduced in Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire as the Bounce Pokemon. Commonly found in forest settings, Spoink isn’t an uncommon sight to find in tall grass. It debuted in Pokemon GO on Dec. 8, 2017 as part of the Hoenn region update, alongside its evolved form, Grumpig.
Can Spoink be shiny in Pokemon GO?
Spoink’s shiny variant was introduced in Pokemon GO on Feb. 4, 2019 as part of that year’s Lunar New Year update, so it’s now available for players to acquire in the game. However, as with all shiny Pokemon, players have to get lucky when encountering Spoink in the wild since the chances of finding the variant have always been very low.
Luckily, the upcoming Sept. 7 Spotlight Hour will feature this Bounce Pokemon. During this hour, encounter rates for Spoink will be dramatically increased, and any stardust acquired from capturing Pokemon will be doubled. This hour will be the best chance for players to catch themselves a shiny Spoink, so it’s wise to start saving those Pokeballs and Berries should you luck out.
The Spotlight Hour featuring Spoink will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 7 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., times in accordance to the player’s local time zone.
