Can you catch the bird in Animal Crossing: New Horizons isn't a euphemism.

The little yellow bird has been hanging around town bulletin boards since New Leaf. It appears to be an average avian creature—much unlike the bird villagers you interact with day-to-day. There's no real way to interact with it other than listen to its song and watch it fly away as you run past. The only one who seems to be able to tame this bird is Harvey, though we haven't seen him truly flex that skill since Pocket Camp.

Curious about the yellow birds? Here's some information you may have missed.

Can You Catch the Bird in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?

The yellow bird is a reoccurring feature in Animal Crossing. So far, they have appeared in every installment since New Leaf. Their primary function is to land on the bulletin board of your town, chirp, and fly away when the player gets too close.

Unfortunately, this means that the bird cannot be caught. The player will never be able to get close enough to it for it to be captured with a net or otherwise.

Several birds can be spotted throughout the town in New Leaf as the player makes upgrades to the town. For example, they can be seen around Main Street, the Museum, and the Camp Ground. They flock to thrown beans and will feed on them.

Villagers may mention the birds in conversation. They are mostly an aesthetic addition to the game, however, and serve no ulterior purpose.

Harvey can be seen befriending the birds on several occasions. They will even land on his head and shoulders when he goes about to feed them. In fact, the only way for the player to get beans feed them, themselves, is through Harvey.

In New Horizons, the bird is replaced with an owl at night.
