This week-long event is meant to celebrate Nintendo's annual "Pokémon Day" as well as draw attention to the Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back - Evolution movie hitting Netflix around the same time. While a new event is exciting in and of itself, the most notable part of this is the featuring of Clone Pokemon—Pokémon made by Mewtwo, itself, over two decades ago.
Here's everything you need to know about Clone Pokémon in Pokémon GO.
Clone Pokémon GO: Everything You Need to Know
Clone Pokémon originally appeared in Pokémon: The First Movie, which told the story of Mewtwo. He is, essentially, a clone of Mew who "grew up" with clones of other Pokémon in a laboratory miles off the coast of Kanto. After the demise of his friends and the development of hatred toward humanity as a whole, Mewtwo created his own clone Pokémon based off those he knew from his "childhood."
These Clone Pokémon will be appearing for the first time ever in four-star raids near you. It's predicted that the clones will have unique patterns akin to the appearance of their movie counterparts. Currently, the list includes Charizard, Blastoise, and Venusaur. Clone Pikachu can be encountered by using your in-game camera.
A variant of Mewtow—Armored Mewtwo—will also be appearing in this event, alongside several other rewards.
The event will run from Tuesday, Feb. 25 through Monday, March 2.
